Recently, Lenovo announced a new line-up of laptops, including the IdeaPad 100s 80R90004US, sporting a very good looking design, despite the pocket-friendly price tag. It has an entry-level spec sheet, great for basic, daily tasks, like browsing the Web, listening to music or watching some of your favorite movies.
It’s powered by an Intel Celeron N3050 processor, with two cores, running at 1.6 GHz, and 2 GB of DDR3L RAM, just enough for running basic programs. Still, if you try to open more at once, the laptop might be a bit slow.
It comes with an Intel HD Graphics on-board chip, with shared video memory, delivering basic image quality. The ultracompact 64 GB eMMC flash memory system is great for mobile devices, providing fast start-up times, but it won’t be enough, even for basic tasks.
In order to expand it, the Lenovo IdeaPad 100s 80R90004US features three USB ports (1 x 3.0 and 2 x 2.0), so you can add an external HDD or add extra peripherals of course. It also has a media reader, supporting microSD cards, so you can expand the storage with even more or use it for simple photo transfers. It doesn’t have a DVD/CD drive.
In terms of connectivity, it has an HDMI output, so you can connect the laptop to a bigger display. The next-generation wireless is three times faster than regular Wireless-N, for quick Web access, while the Bluetooth 4.0 interface is missing, even though it would’ve been a very nice addition to this entry-level laptop.
The Lenovo IdeaPad 100s 80R90004US has an integrated voice assistant, allowing you to use it without typing, using voice commands instead.
Moving on to the display, the laptop is using a 14″ LED-backlit panel, with a typical 1366 x 768 HD resolution. The pixel density is bigger than on a regular 15.6″ laptop though, resulting crispier images.
Above, it has a built-in webcam, with a dual-array digital microphone, making it easy to video chat with your family and friends, with a great image quality and excellent sound.
Design-wise, the Lenovo IdeaPad 100s 80R90004US is a relatively compact model, measuring 0.73″ in thickness and weighing 3.3 lbs, being very easy to carry it around, in your laptop bag or briefcase. It has a silver finish on the lid, which, combined with the black bezel and the keyboard, creates a really nice contrast.
The laptop is available for a very good price, $249.99, with a pre-installed copy of Microsoft’s latest operating system, Windows 10, and a software package, including a trial of Microsoft Office 2013.
