We’ve said it before and we’re going to say it again: most gaming laptops are expensive. Still, the one we’re going to talk about today is by far the most expensive model we have reviewed until now, but after you will see the specs on this monster, you will definitely want one. Ladies and gentlemen, the MSI GT80 Titan.
Under the hood, we can find an Intel Core i7-4720HQ processor, running at 2.6 GHz, one of the top models on the market, alongside 16 GB of RAM, so basically, we don’t think there’s any piece of software which this baby can’t run. And if you think this is impressive, wait until you find out more about the graphics card!
The MSI GT80 Titan comes with two Nvidia GeForce GTX 980M GPUs, in SLI, with 8 GB of memory each, making a total of 16 GB of dedicated video memory. Again, you can run any game you want, on maximum settings and you don’t have to worry about a single sign of weakness from this laptop.
Moving on to the storage capacity, the laptop has two 128 GB MSATA SSDs in RAID 0 configuration, alongside 1 TB HDD, so you can’t really complain about storage capacity. You also have a total of five USB 3.0 ports, a 3-in-1 card reader, jacks for microphone and headphones, and, of course, an optical drive able to burn Blu-Ray discs. And these only on the sides, as on the back of the laptop, there is also a mini DisplayPort duo, HDMI port, Ethernet and last but not least, the power jack. Now that’s what I call connectivity!
One of the first things you’ll notice at the MSI GT80 Titan is the display. It features a huge 18.4″ full HD panel, with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, delivering vivid and sharp images, with wide viewing angles. Yep, it’s big and perfect for watching your favorite movies! Also, considering that it comes with a pair of Dynaudio speakers and a bottom-mounted subwoofer, you will also enjoy a top-notch sound experience.
In terms of battery, we were totally disappointed, as this seems to be this laptop’s only weakness. It last a bit over two hours, but we can understand, as all that power stacked in it is a battery killer.
We can’t deny that we were amazed by the design of the MSI GT80 Titan. It’s big and it’s scary, with a brushed aluminum finish and a pair of red chrome inserts, which create some nice details. Also, it’s the first laptop to feature a backlit mechanical keyboard, placed under what seems a simple aluminum panel, which can be removed in order to have access at the laptop’s internals. Finally, the rear and the undercarriage are made from magnesium, which basically justifies the price.
And speaking about the price, this gaming beast surely knows how to keep people away, as it’s available for $3399. It’s definitely that the MSI GT80 titan is not your regular everyday laptop, but if your budget is basically unlimited, you should definitely give it a try!
