After last year’s excellent Galaxy Tab S, Samsung recently introduced their latest flagship tablet, Galaxy Tab S2 9.7. It’s an excellent device for anybody who consumes media on a regular basis but also likes to enjoy some games, as thanks to its powerful internals, it’s able to run the latest titles with ease.
The tablet is powered by an octa-core CPU, with four cores running at 1.9 GHz and four other cores, running at 1.3 GHz, designed for less-demanding tasks. The processor is aided by 3 GB of RAM, while the storage capacity counts 32 or 64 GB, depending on the variant you choose. Optionally, you can expand this with a maximum of 128 GB, using a microSD card.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 comes with a microUSB v2.0 charger, which can also be used for attaching peripherals, like a keyboard or a gamepad, in order to take mobile gaming to a whole new level.
In terms of connectivity, it features Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, GPS with GLONASS and a Bluetooth 4.1 interface, so you can synchronize it with compatible devices, like laptops or smartphones.
The camera department is represented by an rear-mounted 8 MP sensor, with autofocus, able to take pictures at a maximum resolution of 3264 x 2448 pixels and record 1440p videos @30fps. As for the front camera, it’s a 2.1 MP one, just perfect for a quality video call or, why not, a selfie.
Moving on to the display, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 is using a 9.7″ Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, able to display 16 million colors and with a resolution of 1536 x 2048 pixels. The pixel density counts about 264 ppi, resulting sharp and vivid images.
The tablet is using a non-removable Li-Ion 5870 mAh battery, able to resist for up to 109h of music play or 12h of delivering multimedia content.
Other features worth mentioning are the integrated fingerprint sensor, something that you won’t find on many tablets nowadays, and the Nano-SIM support, enabling you to make calls and use a data plan on this tablet. The latter is available just for the LTE model.
Finally, the operating system of choice is Google’s Android 5.0.2 Lollipop, with, most-likely, a planned upgrade to Android M, as soon as it will be released.
As for the design of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 9.7, the manufacturer managed to make one of the slimmest tablets on the market, measuring just 0.22″ in thickness. Due to the slim design, the tablet is also very light, weighing 389g (Wi-Fi) or 392g (LTE). It’s available in three different colors: white, black and gold.
The price wasn’t confirmed yet, but such powerful tablet won’t come for cheap. Most sources are pointing to a price tag around $500, but let’s not forget that when it comes to high-end models, you get what you pay for.
