If you’re after a new smartwatch and budget is not a problem, then one of the options you should consider is the Samsung Galaxy S2 classic, one of the best wearables we’ve seen this year.
One of the best parts of this device, besides the impressive amount of power and technology it’s packing, it also features a very elegant look, getting close to how a traditional wristwatch should look like.
The Samsung Galaxy S2 classic measures just 0.45″ in thickness and weighs 42 grams, so it feels very light around the wrist. It’s made out of stainless steel and comes with a black leather band.
The always-on round 1.2″ Super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display has 16 million colors and a resolution of 360 x 360 pixels, resulting an impressive density of 302 ppi. It’s protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and it’s surrounded by a rotating bezel.
Moving on, the smartwatch is powered by an Exynos 3250 chipset, with a dual-core CPU, clocked at 1.0 GHz, alongside 512 MB of RAM and 4 GB of internal storage, non-expandable.
As for the battery, the Samsung Galaxy S2 classic features a 250 mAh power pack, which should provide around a day and a half of use, if you’re a regular user. Otherwise, the manufacturer guarantees up to 48 hours of battery life. It can be recharged wirelessly, using the special dock provided in the package.
Unlike most smartwatches on the market, the Gear S2 isn’t using Google’s Android Wear, but Samsung’s own mobile operating system, Tizen. Using the bezel around the display, you can easily navigate through the menu. The S Voice natural language commands and dictation are integrated, replacing the Google Now voice assistant.
The Samsung Galaxy S2 classic can be connected to your smartphone through the Bluetooth 4.1 interface, but it can also connect to wireless networks, through 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi. It also has NFC, accelerometer, gyroscope and a barometer.
Of course, we can’t ignore the heart rate sensor mounted of the back of the smartwatch, which, through the S Health app, can be the excellent fitness companion. Wearing it during your workout or simply when taking a walk will deliver to your phone information like the number if burned calories, steps taken and so on.
Overall, the Samsung Gear S2 classic, the manufacturer’s sixth smartwatch, is definitely an excellent choice, no matter if it’s your first wearable or you’ve tried a few of them until now. If you can get over the fact that it runs Tizen instead of Android Wear, it’s what you need. It works with any phone running Android 4.4 or above, but some features are available just on Samsung smartphones.
Like mentioned above, it doesn’t come for cheap, being available for $349. Still, think that you’re getting not just a smartwatch, but a stylish accessory that you can wear with various outfits.
