Despite they’re one of the biggest laptops manufacturers on the market, Toshiba is still not a big name when it comes to tablets. Still, this doesn’t mean that they don’t have some excellent devices in their portfolio, like the Encore 2 Write, which, thanks to their operating system, Windows 8.1, can be a great alternative to a laptop for those who are always on the go and need a compact device for their daily tasks.
The tablet is using an Intel Atom Z3735F processor, running at 1.33 GHz, with a 2 MB cache, offering the user the ability of increasing the clock speed up to 1.83 GHz, for efficient performance. It’s teamed up with 2 GB of RAM, so it’s packing enough processing power to be able to run basic apps and access multiple websites.
In terms of storage, the Toshiba Encore 2 Write has 64 GB of flash memory, which, for a tablet, should be more than enough. Still, it also has a card slot, supporting formats like microSD, microSDHC and microSDXC, enabling you to add even more space. Of course, if you’re not a cloud storage fan!
Besides the card slot, you also have access to a microUSB 2.0, for both charging and connecting extra peripherals, directly or using an OTG cable.
As for the connectivity, it has Wi-Fi, for quick, wireless Web access, and a Bluetooth 4.0 interface, so you can sync the tablet with compatible devices, like tablets or smartphones.
Moving on to the display, the Toshiba Encore 2 Write is using an 8″ LED-backlit 10-point capacitive multitouch display, with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels, so you will be able to enjoy very clear and crisp images. Also, it has a 16:10 widescreen aspect ration, in order to make navigation in landscape mode simpler.
The built-in stereo speakers are using the Dolby Digital Plus technology, so you might as well use the tablet for enjoying clips on YouTube or even movies, with an excellent sound.
On the back, we can spot an 8MP high-definition camera, perfect for taking some quick snapshots. Turning it around reveals a 1.2 MP snapper, mounted above the display, for video chatting over Skype or Hangouts, or, why not, for selfies.
A feature of the Toshiba Encore 2 Write that we really like is the fact that it comes with a WACOM Active capacitive pen. It can be attached on the bottom of the tablet, which, for some users, might not be that practical.
Finally, the tablet is available for $310.75, which, for a Windows 8.1 tablet, is a more than decent price. You will also receive a 1-year subscription to Microsoft Office, so if you’re looking for a compact replacement for your laptop, the Toshiba Encore 2 Write could be a great solution.
